Meaning

Revelation 3:20 is a call of intimate fellowship from Jesus to each person. It illustrates Jesus standing patiently, persistently, and passionately at the door of our hearts, wanting to have a personal relationship with us. The image of Jesus knocking signifies His invitation and our free will to open or ignore.

When it's written, "If anyone hears my voice", it's a clear indication that God does not discriminate. His invitation is extended to everyone, regardless of their past, social status, or background.

The latter part of the verse promises a divine reward. If we open the door and invite Him in, we get to dine with Jesus. It is symbolic of deepening our relationship with Him through constant communication and dependence on His wisdom.

Lord, I am grateful for your persistent knock at the door of my heart. Help me to recognize your voice amongst the noise of the world. I willingly open my heart to you, ready to cultivate a deeper relationship. May I not only dine with you but also extend your loving invitation to others. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
